Checklist for a smooth transition back to school

Back to school time is upon us!

Before you know it, the kids will be back in school, and the comfortable routine goes out the window! To help you prepare for the transition back to school, we've put together a checklist of auto repair items you should pay attention to.

A checklist can help new drivers get their vehicles ready for the back-to-school season. Sit down with our new drivers and help them hit the road prepared for all the memory-making ahead. Here are some items to consider when you build your checklist:

Check your tires for the following.

It's important to have good tread on your tires, especially during the summer months. Be sure to check the pressure and condition of your tires before the school year begins!

Tread - The tread should be at least ¼ inch deep all around the tire. Furthermore, your tire tread should be well-defined and cover the entire surface of your tires with easily defined grooves. If it doesn't, your tire is likely going "bald," and you'll want to consider new tires.

Tires - Tires should be inflated to the pressure recommended by the manufacturer. If your tires are inflated to less than the recommended pressure, you're driving on under-inflated tires. This can lead to a blowout and increased wear on the tires. If you aren't sure what pressure to inflate your tires to, you can find this information in your car's owner's manual.

Check your brakes for the following:

With all the running around you'll be doing, you'll want to make sure your brakes are in good condition! Pay attention to these factors!

Brake pads - The brake pads should be at least ⅛ inch thick. If they're not, you'll want to have them examined. Bring your car into Happy Wallet Quality Auto Repair for a quick inspection!

Brake fluid level - If the brake fluid level is not at the "MIN" mark, you will want to bring your car in for a brake fluid exchange. This is a process where the old brake fluid is removed, and the new brake fluid is put in its place. This will help to keep your brakes functioning properly.

Check your vehicle fluids for the following:

Just like you and me, our vehicles need a good drink to keep them going!

Vehicle fluid levels - The fluid levels should be at the "FULL" mark on their reservoir. If they aren't, you will want to add fluids to your car. It's best to use the type of fluids recommended by the manufacturer. You can find this information in your car's owner's manual, and don't hesitate to bring your car in if you have any questions!

This is an exciting time in a new driver's life, and we want to help you make the most of it! We hope this checklist has been helpful in getting your car ready for the new school year.
